On the Alliance boards I explained that a Seattle-based friend of mine, well an acquaintance really, was planning his first trip to the LBH, around the Anniversary [God help him],and had asked me how he could contact local experts for good and useful information.
I told him that the LBHA was holding their 2009 Conference in Billings next year, and that there were a multitude of experts within that group who would be happy to share with him, and perhaps guide him around the battlefields. This, of course, led him to ask when that Conference was being held, and Doctor Knowitall had to admit that he did not know [Egads!!].
I posted a question as to the dates on the Alliance boards, but nobody seemed to know [the LBHA site did not have any info]. Does anyone here know the dates? Bill? Fred? RCH? Anyone?
Thanks,
Gordie
BTW - I have come back only briefly to seek help and to ask this question. I will, however, remain a member, although I likely will not post on debate threads. I will, however, have a special offer which I will post in February or March - so watch for that.

I just looked in the December newsletter and it doesn't state a date for the conference. I assume it would be starting on a Thursday and somewhere around the 25th of June.

Britt - Thanks for your response. The 25th IS a Thursday. I think I'll just tell him that it would be best to use the 25th as the center-point of his stay and allow a few days either way from there.
If you are going to be there, watch out for a chap named Stan Zupan collaring members and asking for assistance. Same goes for anyone else going to be in the area around that time.
Melani - I'll tell Stan to make a special point of traipsing down the Keogh Trail.
Bill and Fred and RCH - I expect good things from you, and I've advised Stan to look you guys up specially. I'm assuming that folks wear name-tags. Anything you could do for him, I'd take as a personal favor to me [repayable as a beverage of your choice - within reason, of course - if I ever get to one of your Roundtables, or we otherwise should meet].
Thanks everybody - and when the dates are firmed up, please let me know, if you remember.
Gordie

For some reason, I keep thinking I saw the dates June 21-23, but not sure where. Possibly a mailing.

Melani:
Diane thought she had seen the same dates - so maybe that is it, or them, or those. Thanks.

Hey Gordie! Its always great to hear from you. Of course, we shall look out for your buddy up at LBH. We would be happy to show him around, as well as anyone else who shows up too. The best bet would be if he could arrange to stay at the hotel where the convention site is to be held. I'm not sure which hotel, but if you send an email to Bill Blake, he will be happy to get back to you on that, as well as the specific dates of the convention. I know that its going to be held the week before the anniversary of the battle. They are planning to do a reride from the Crows Nest to the battlefield on the 19th of June. The Convention itself will be on the days immediately following.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year my friend,
Bill

Gordie, would you mind posting the info Bill Blake gave you? It seems silly for each of us to have to email him individually. It would be really nice if they would put the information for people to attend the conference on the website, if they actually want people to show up.

Not at all, Melani - the dates are as you remembered from wherever: 21-23 June, and the hotel of record is the Holiday Inn - The Grand Montana of beautiful Billings.

Found it! (buried on the kitchen table) The info is in the Chairman's Message in the November 2008 newsletter. The organizer is Charles Hubbard, who can be reached at custer1839@hotmail.com. The hotel will probably have some kind of discount deal, or at least I hope so.

The conferences will be held back-to-back with a one-day hiatus. The LBHA's starts on Saturday, June 20 and goes to Tuesday, June 23. The 24th is the break and the CBHMA's begins the 25th. I believe it ends Sunday, June 28.
Then there's a party at my place, June 29.
Best wishes, Fred.

Good morning everyone...had a friend suggest I check the message board about the conference in 2009. Not sure why members don't know about the 2009 conference as it was first announced in the August Newsletter by both Chairman on page 2 and me on page 3 to include the hotel and special memento (three different notes about it). In fact, the cover announced the start of the Battle Training Program!
More details followed in the November issue again by the Chairman and me (pages 2 and 3) and the first big BTP article on pages 6 and 7! Lastly, I mentioned it again in the December NL on page 3.
February's issue should have the flyer in it and hopefully the webmaster will get some information for a headline and a reservation form right after the holidays.
So, 21-23 June in the Holiday Inn Grand Montana in downtown Billings. Associates may opt to then attend the CBHMA Symposium 25-28 June in Hardin and at the National Monument, the Friends of the LBHBNM presentations the same time, and of course the two reenactments (Hardin and Real Bird).
Charlie indicates a good rate at the hotel and Joan Croy picked the speakers. I have no idea who they are so that should be in the flyer and on the site as well in the not too distant future.
Charlie's email is in a message above so any questions contact him directly.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Regards, Rod Thomas Editor, LBHA Newsletter
