Thanks, Bill for the update on the ride. I'm glad you are on task and in keeping with the original intent of this thread. Thanks as well to those who have updated us on the conference agenda. Keep the relevant conference-related info coming.

Well, I will bring along several period shirts in different sizes for those who would like to borrow them--as a costumer, I have a bunch around the house. They are all cotton and won't be any more uncomfortable than your regular clothes.
I have arranged to start brushing up my horseback skills this Sunday--I have ridden before, but I don't want to tell you how long ago!

Just to let all of you know... I am meeting a bunch of friends in Billings on June 18. MOst of these fellows-- there are 6 of us-- post on these boards, at least once in a while. We head to Fort Lincoln on the morning of the 19th, but will be spending the night of June 21st at the Super 8 in Hardin. From there we will be in Billings at the Best Western Clock Tower Inn, June 22, 23 and 24. From there, we go to Sheridan and Buffalo, WY, and then spend the last night somewhere in Billings (that's the night of the 27th). I-- we-- would love to meet some of you and if you don't find us at the hotels, we will most likely be at the Montana Brewing Company or Angry Hank's.
I doubt anyone will be able to miss us.
Best wishes and hope to meet a bunch of you, Fred.

I will be at the Holiday Inn where the conference is being held from the 18th to the 23rd, and will be attending the conference--provided I survive the trail ride. Will you be at the conference, Fred? I will also be on the Keogh Trail at the battlefield on the 26th and 27th--I'm pretty sure about those dates without looking it up.

Melani--
I think all 6 of us are going to attend the seminars on the 23rd. We will also be making the breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We will be spending the night of the 26th in Buffalo, WY, but I am not sure what these clowns have planned for the day. At some time on the 27th, we will be back in Billings, so it leads me to believe we will be spending a good part of that afternoon at the LBH.
In 2007, our goal was Davis Creek, the Crow's Nest, the divide, and the Reno Creek area. This year it is primarily from Ford A to the timber and we have made arrangements to walk the entire length (I wrote a monograph-- not published-- about Reno's trip down the valley, the extent of the skirmish line, and the defensibility of the timber, and these buddies of mine are anxious to test out my petty little theories). In addition, we are going to Fort Lincoln, so it will be fun, as usual. We will definitely get together. Mark the MBC down on your list and meet us there one of the evenings. It'll be on us.
Best wishes, Fred.

but I am not sure what these clowns have planned for the day. Clowns?! I resemble that remark. "Mark the MBC down on your list and meet us there one of the evenings. It'll be on us."-- If you're smart Melani, you will print Fred's post and bring it with you. He has a way of "going to the bathroom" when its time to pay for beers. ;D Seriously, I'm one of the clowns and would love to meet you as well. I'll be the one at the bookroom with all the books and no money left. Scott

You and me both, 'dude--I always bring along an empty suitcase for the books. I tell myself it saves the shipping charges, since I would buy them anyway.

You guys have got to be more and more discriminating. Unless you just collect them for the heck of it, there are fewer and fewer books I want to buy. At this point, I can think of none that I am interested in-- and I do not have a big collection; certainly under 100. I would, however, love to get my grubby hands on back issues of both the Research Review and Greasy Grass. There are some "gem" articles in those things. I would love to have an index of articles from the Research Review, much like the one from Greasy Grass.
Best wishes, Fred.

I've reduced my collection somewhat...down to under 100 books. I have a lot of books I made myself...spiraled ring booklets which contain some incredible copies of rare stuff...papers, letters etc. I'm with you Fred...I'm more into rare quality stuff than just having every Custer book ever published. Been there done that. While I do have several rare books most are copies...which suits me fine. I'm more interested in the information than how much the book costs which is a totally different mindset than I had years ago.
The old RR's and GG'S do contain some real 'gems' on the battle. I refer to them quite a bit while researching.
See ya at the LBH!

You guys have been at it longer than I have...I am still playing catch-up with my reading.
Fred, there will certainly be back issues of Greasy Grass for sale at the Historic Book Fair in Hardin.

Michael--
Man, I am looking forward to meeting you. What a pleasure that will be!
It's funny what you say about your spiral binders. I have about four 3-ring binders I keep Xeroxed articles in, but I certainly have nothing worth a dime, other than the books I have. In addition, I have most of my notes printed out and I keep them in three of those monsterously large binders, though they are terribly out of date. I find myself modifying or changing things almost daily.
And Melani, you are probably right about the Greasy Grass journals. I will look for them. By the way, I have an index for all the articles written over the years for Greasy Grass. If anyone wants a copy, I can e-mail it to you. There are also indices of pictures, maps, etc. I think I got them from Lee Noyes of the CBHMA.
Best wishes, Fred.

Regarding the GG list - I'll be updating it on the CBHMA website in the next few days and I've got the TOC in the June Newsletter which should be printing as we speak. I am finishing up my book and when I do I can complete the index for the RR which I started last year but have been focused on the book meanwhile. I have some issues to check out (RR) as I am not sure what I have is correct in some cases. In short, when it's done I'll make it available for sure on the websites for download. Goes back to 1969 and am depending on folks who have all of them to help. Sandy Barnard will be at both Billings and Hardin (he and I just finished talking) so will Ron Nichols who will also back issues of both. They should also have back issues of the CBHMA Annual Symposium which has some fascinating work. My war bride has finally put the wahtosch on any more Custer books - period. Big sale coming up for sure!
Regards, Rod...

That's a great list-- thank you, "Treasuredude"-- and I wish the LBHA would do something similar. Maybe we can make that suggestion. I have found many of the articles much more chock-full of information than a lot of the books I have read. A few that really stand out in my mind are Trinque's article about Luce and Nye-Cartwright ridges; Heski's article about the move up Davis Creek; Ray Hillyer's article on the regimental standards; and Mike Nunnally's article on the LBH fakers.
These two journals are superb and in my opinion are far better in their field of endeavor than many other journals within a different field.
Best wishes, Fred.
