Fred I will try to get there if I can get a ride. Im on to many narcotics to drive legally. I can drive fine but worry about some drunk smaching into me and getting tested then Im done with the morphine and oxy and valium in me. I live in Ocean County NJ its filled with crazy teen drivers and 90 year old senior citizen drivers who both cause the most accidents. And that idiot Jersey Shore show filmed 10 min from where I live led to more checkpoints etc.

I live in Ocean County NJ its filled with crazy teen drivers and 90 year old senior citizen drivers who both cause the most accidents. And that idiot Jersey Shore show filmed 10 min from where I live led to more checkpoints etc. Good move. Best to have a DD (designated driver). Just takes a checkpoint, parking lot fender bender, tail light out, no turn signal, 911 call from a convenience store clerk or driver behind you, and countless other minor reasons to get yourself stopped. They detect a little slurring, bloodshot eyes, or slight odor and then you are out doing field sobriety tests that no one can pass. I see too much of that stuff. Even people too proud to use the DD sitting next to them. Just causes a lot of legal grief in these days and times. The old story of "I've only had one" is automatic grounds to get someone out of the car doing tests that impossible to perform to the complete satisfaction of an officer needing promotion points. Law enforcement is on the lawsuit defense and over react anymore. They think about the lawsuit that the stopped person will go down the road and kill 10 people and then say an officer stopped them and let them go after telling the officer they had been drinking. Besides, it's not drunk driving anymore. It is over the legal limit driving. .08 or similar standard for drugs isn't someone who is drunk as it just takes 2 to 4 beers to put some people over the limit. I just settled a case the other day at the start of trial. Lady said she didn't drive her vehicle and park it at the front door of the bar even though they had eyewitnesses to her driving. When confronted with the evidence, turns out she was so drunk that she didn't remember driving and thought she walked to the bar. bc

Hope so, Raymond. If not, then you and I need to get together separately to see what you want me to write in your book.
Best wishes, Fred.

As usual, our latest version of the NYC Round Table was a huge success. Again, Don Horn was gracious enough to host this coven of reprobates, and "keogh" (Bill Rini) and I were the main event, squaring off with 12-ounce gloves, no holds barred rules. As usual, "keogh" lost. <g>
It was a great time and Bill and I pored over "times" for hours. I think the whole thing lasted about 4 3/4 hours-- maybe the longest one yet.
In addition to "keogh" and myself, Ray ("rch") was there; Dan ("benteen") was there-- as usual, arriving first; "stevenonhudson" drove in with me, as did Charles Markantes... seven of us, total. With the exception of about 10-15 minutes on football (it is the playoffs, after all), the conversation was totally about... let's see, now... I forgot.
Now... if we can just get "The Chief" (aka, "montrose") and "bandboxtroop" into our little group... that would be the best.
Best wishes, Fred.

Fred,
Yes Capt it was. And as always a pleasure to see you and Steve and Don Horn again. Also a pleasure to meet Ray(RCH)even more enjoyable to talk to in person, and Bill (keogh) and Charles.(You got to get him on the board he was very knowledgeable) Enjoyed the conversation so much I didn't realize how fast time flew by. Bill I know you and Fred were into some heavy research, hope to converse with you next time.
Only disappointment was that Don Horn, with a lifes work as an author, researcher, and historian on the LBH, somehow thinks that Custer wasn't wrong, Ill have to explain it to him next time <G> Looking forward to the next meeting. Melani I certainly hope you can you wont be disappointed.
Be Well Dan

I think you need to move it west a little ways. Give Melani (and me) a fighting chance to get there.

Or we need to figure out how to get to Gerry's Montana Roundtable. Retirement is starting to look really good.

I don't think I can justify two trips up there in one year, though.

Me neither. I am definitely going to go to Washita, and the to LBH for the anniversary, so the logistics are going to get very weird.

I am very pleased to announce that the next meeting of the LHBA NYC Roundtable has been scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Don Horn's historic restaurant and meeting place, Pal's Cabin in West Orange, NJ at 12:00 PM. We're hoping for a big turnout to welcome a special guest joining us for the first time all the way from the West Coast, this board's own 'melani'! And this will be the first time we've all gotten together since the publication earlier this year of Fred's invaluable new reference work, Participants in the Battle of the Little Big Horn. So, we should have lots and lots to talk about to go with the great food and drink that we always enjoy at Pal's. Hope to see a lot of you there on the 29th...and that means YOU, too, Clair!!
