bc, fred, Melani... you guys going to Monroe In June for the LBHA convention? M No plans to. Not sure if Michigan fits into a logical vacation trip. My next trip east, I'd like to go to Boston and surrounding colonies. Don't see an eastern trip in the forecast this summer. See you in Okie country though. Have to find some knee boots, hip waders, or better yet chest waders for a trip to Okie City, Okielahoma but I'll be there. I'd expect Zekesgirl to ride her horse down there. And it's just a hop, skip, and a jump for Williamly and RA-O. I'd expect and challenge the clouds to turn dark at the Washita as well in 2011. bc

BC, how about some more information about what's going on in OKC? 3 weeks at LBH this summer are going to severely strees the budget, but OKC really is just down the road.

Ditto the above. I am headed for Montana in June, and can only be in so many places at once, but Washita in 2011 should fit fine into the schedule. Unfortunately, my employers expect me to show up for work every now and then--really cuts into the more important stuff.

Employers are like that aren't they? You'll be gone from Montana by the time I get there, I'm sure.

BC, how about some more information about what's going on in OKC? 3 weeks at LBH this summer are going to severely strees the budget, but OKC really is just down the road. Z-girl, Melanie, et. al: Summer of 2011. Conference to be at OKC. Bus tour to Washita. Dennis Coddington of Emporia, KS is working on the details. I'm giving whatever help he wants. Dennis has certain contraints placed on him apparently by long time tradition and certain needs of the few powers that be. 1. There is a preference for holiday inns. I'm not sure why. 2. We need to be by an airport for all those who fly in, numbers of which I don't know. 3. Apparently there are those who bring spouses and others who have the need to be in a large city so they can go shopping while everyone else attends the conference. I have made some suggestions to not follow the traditions and needs of the shoppers but instead focus on the conference goers. Such as one of the towns closer to the Washita who has the facilities to hold our little conference. This would shorten the 2 hour bus ride and allow people to drive to the Washita and set up trips to other places such as Camp Supply. North Platte is proof that you don't need a major city to have good accomodations and a meeting room. Those flying can probably rent cars or car pool. I don't know the number of flyers but if they can afford to fly, they can afford to rent a car. OKC isn't really much of a haven for shoppers unless you need cowboy boots and hats. What little checking I've done on the web suggests there are some closer towns with suitable facilities but all I can do is make suggestions to the powers to be. Considering the cost to rent busses nowadays, it makes sense to me to drive when possible. I guess I could spend more than a bus trip at Washita to go over the lay of the land and sort out battle tactics but Black Kettle's camp was really fairly small and the battlefield is fairly compact. Because of the small size of the area, it is hard to compare to the vastness of the LBH. I also know that Billings was a long drive to the LBH but I doubt if I or the association will be back at Billings again for a long time. bc

I would much rather stay closer to the site. You're right about there being limited shopping experience in OKC!

Well, I guess the vastness of LBH was part of Custer's problem! ;D Billings was really the only choice for that one--Hardin doesn't exactly have the facilities for that sort of thing--well, I guess Sheridan would also do, and is about the same distance.
I intend to drive my van to OKC--the one time I flew to LBH and rented a car, it just wasn't adequate, especially since I was camping. Wouldn't work any more anyway--no more free baggage on planes.
Last I heard, a friend of mine was acting chief of interpretation at Washita--hope she's still there.
zekesgirl, I'll be at LBH for the anniversary, around the week of the 25th--haven't nailed down dates yet, but will soon. Fellow LBH trail guide Hank enjoyed the battlefield ride so much last year that he is currently trying to set up another for anybody who might be interested--so far there are three of us.

Melanie, I won't get there until July 6 or 7. Giving the dust time to settle, I guess.

Well, I am bummed. I really wanted to be home in Monroe for the statue redefication and the conference but I'm still on the road. Then I have drill coming up. I am so ready to retire from that. 22 years later, it's time. Trucking AND reserves equals no life whatsoever! Please fill me in how it went. Hopefully next year in OKC. Btw, I am through OKC often. It's alright. Nothing special, just another big city. Does have the cowboy hall of fame and some cool clubs. I am into the boots and hats so the stores work for me! Leigh
