I was right about something, my wife will never believe it. Anyhow, St. George Stanley's narrative is interesting, descriptive, and a good read. I would like to think my article does him justice and rescues him from the land of obscurity. Oh yes, I hope people read it because there's a lot more in it than cholera morbus! And if you haven't ordered your issue of Last Stand Magazine, Volume 1, it won't be around forever. Marc, do you do Paypal? If not, send me a PM with the subscription link. Your magazine sounds like it approaches my more wide view of the Army frontier experience than most. In case you haven't noticed, the Custer-Cluster is not my forte nor my main focus of interest. As a matter of fact, most times when Fred or others start discussing the minutiae of that battle, my eyes glaze over as if some unknown person was explaining their family genealogy. Billy

Oh, yeah!, and this from the guy who has spread-sheeted every soldier's death from the Mexican War through the Boer! (Which I still can't open!) Try the Napoleonic Wars next, Billy; that ought to drive your poor, long-suffering wife bananas! A $20 check, made of something other than neoprene-- Billy-- will do nicely. You will not regret it and you will be looking for the next issue. It's great stuff. Best wishes, Fred.

The snow is flying all around us but I got my Summer Research Review in the mail yesterday along with the October Newsletter. Interesting articles on the Lone Tepee(s). Have to find the right thread, but once everybody has received their review and read it, then it might be ripe for more discussion. Tom Bookwalter did a good job of applying a good lawyers' closing argument style to cherry picking facts and trying to explain things away. I like his location of the main burning tepee. Bill Boyes did a good job as well and I'm leaning towards more than one tepee site but not his location. Number of Tepees: Bill1, Tom 0. Location of main burning Tepee: Tom 1, Bill 0.

I have glanced through both articles, but have read neither. From what little I have seen, Bookwalter is incorrect in his conclusions. That is my opinion. Distances, times, and testimonies (though not all) mitigate against him. Bill Boyes is more correct, though some of his positioning appears to be off. I do not know whether Bill paid a lot of attention to Custer's route that he marked on his map, but if he did then I believe he has reversed his opinions in several areas (that's a good thing, as Martha would say). If you notice that route, he shows the Custer command moving along the west side of Sharpshooters' Ridge and down Cedar Coulee. If I remember correctly-- and I may not have, here-- Bill always believed Custer went along the east side of SSR and down the high ground to the east of Cedar to MTC.
I guess I will have to read both of them soon.
Best wishes, Fred.
