Hey gang!!
I'm just back to fulfill my promise to post info re my trip to LBH in 2010, and how some of you might participate therein. I posted this information on the Alliance forum on the Around The Campfire board, under a thread titled the same as this one. Rather than repeat all of the info, which is mostly on that thread, I would invite you, if you are interested, to hop over there sometime, have a boo, and see if you might be interested.
There is no need to become a member of that forum in order to read the postings there. This might just be the opportunity you have always wanted to have an in-depth introduction to the Custer Battle and to visit the terrain over which the campaign was conducted; learn where the key points are located; visit other points of interest in the locality, and a bit of a drive away, and etc etc etc and blah blah blah.
If you are interested, check it out - if still interested, Email me at
biggordie@hotmail.com
with any additional questions, or to express your interest in coming along.
In the meanwhile, best wishes to all.

Gordie--
I would go to the LBH next year just to meet you, but I am certainly not interested in viewing the other boards. To do so would only make me pretentious and condescending.
Best wishes, Fred.

Fred:
If you would be interested in participating in the trip, just let me know via Email, or PM [while I'm still here, and then you wont have to appear whatever, although I don't see how reading the post I mentioned will even be noticed by anyone. You are still a member "over there" but you don't have to log in to see the details, and it would save me a lot of typing.
In any event, let me know about your wishing to participate, and I'll send you the details.
Regards,
Gordie

Gordie--
Type away! It's a matter of principle. I prefer not to acknowledge the efforts of someone I no longer like or respect and who I simply regard as a troublesome and vindictive little busy-body. I already knew you had something cooking; while I don't "visit," friends do, and I am reasonably well informed.
I am not sure what will be going on in 2010, but if I can cajole my buddies into spending another week out there at that time, we shall certainly coordinate around your schedule. I would like to know what you have cooking... despite our abrasive personalities... well, certainly my abrasive personality... you know how I feel about your knowledge. Plus I like your sense of humor... even if your choice of friends is sometimes questionable.
Best wishes, Fred.

Watch for the mail; I'll never fail - if you don't get a letter, then you'll know I'm in jail.

Gordie

All:
Another trekker has joined, and the complement is now filled; BUT two of the previously-ticketed travelers have yet to re-confirm, and their status might change [or not]. One of them is due to be deployed at any moment, and may not be able to go, and the other is his wife, who may not want to go without him.
If you want to put your name in, now is the time to do it.
To re-cap for those who don't want to go over to the other boards to check out the post, the trip will last 12 days from Billings to going home, with four days being a set tour guided by a Cheyenne tribal historian. Areas covered will include the trails down the Rosebud; Deer Medicine Rocks;the Rosebud Battlefield; the trails up Davis Creek; the Night March halts etc; the Crows Nest; the Divide; the battalions point; the start of Benteen's March; the marches down Ash Creek; Benteen's return to the trail; the morass; the Lone Tipi site; Gerard's Knoll; Varnum's Lookout; Custer's watering and turn to the north; Reno's route to Ford A; Ford A; Reno's positions in the valley, and the Valley Fight; Custer's route, and lookout points; SSR; the Reno-Benteen Defense Site; the camp locations in the valley; Ford D; the warriors camp; the Suicide Boys camp; Custer's route to Ford D and the retreat therefrom; E Company's actions; Introduction to the Custer Fight; MTC and Ford B; Reno's retreat route and Water-carriers' Ravine, and etc etc etc and blah blah blah.
We will also be visiting Fort Phil Kearny, the Fetterman Fight site; Fort C.F. Smith; the Hayfield and Wagon Box Fights sites; the Medicine Wheel; Jim Gatchell Museum; Buffalo Bill Museum; Curley's cabin; the Big Hole Battlefield [and maybe Canyon Creek]; and maybe a spot of fishing for those so inclined - and why Budweiser and Coors are not the be-alls and end-alls of beer..
There will be evenings of seemingly endless discussions, where you can listen and contribute to, and possibly learn from, "experts" on Indian culture, horses, the LBH fights, western history and other enlightening topics, such as how to lose money at various kinds of card games.
Depending upon the number of attendees - no more than five - the cost to each could be as low as 740 bucks [if you are providing the transport] or as much as 1660 if you're not. That includes allowances for food, lodging [sharing] entries and miscellaneous [gas and mileage and car rental if necessary]. The four-day tour costs 825 bucks each, but I am subsidizing it down to ZERO, if you supply the transport, or 500 if you don't [simply to encourage interest]. All costs are approximate, especially if you decide that you don't want to share in the lodgings and cooking/BBQing.
We currently have a vehicle pledged, but it might not be suitable if we wind up with five, as the guide will be riding along with us.
As I said - NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!!! see first post for contact info.
