Yes Gordie, we would love to have you at one of our informal get-togethers to help solve the eternal mystery of the LBH. We always have a great time in our efforts to untangle this Gordian Knot of who did what, when and where. BTW rch, I have heard back from a bunch of our regulars (although they would be better described as 'the irregulars' when it comes to their participation at our forum here). Joe, Charles, Steve, & Peter have all expressed interest in meeting up this month for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, so it looks like we shall have more than just the two of us to contend with (we'll need to find someone besides ourselves to uphold the honor of Frederick Benteen, as our own Fred will not be there to do the honors-- ) I have not yet heard back from Don Horn but I would like to coordinate with him on a good time and location for this month's meeting. I will let everyone know as soon as I do. Garryowen, keogh

Whether you know it or not, my wife was razzin' the whole bunch of you over our lunch today. She said, simply, if you were at all some sort of techies, you'd tele-conference me in. But no-o-o-o-o-o!
Best wishes, Fred. (Benteen)

Well why don't we set up a video web conference. Everyone should have a webcam or can get one cheap at walmart. I haven't done one in years but somewhere there are instructions for setting one up. It doesn't cost a dime. Just figure it out and post the instructions. Maybe I'll check it out tonight after I get done seeing ol Clint take care of a few punks.
I know, I know, a video conference isn't the same as sitting around a table having some drunks slobber on ya but it's a little cheaper. Just drink your home brew and then send your travel money, cab fare, and bar rag tips to me.
Could shoot for some Sunday afternoon or some evening. None, and I mean none, of my favorite NFL teams made the playoffs so I'll have some Sundays that aren't committed.
Fred, was that a new book on Rommel? He's one of my military heroes. I read one back in high school, had a red cover I believe. Longest Day is still one of my favorite military movies. Comes on every few months.

BC--
No; it's the Paul Carell book, Foxes of the Desert. It is a Schiffer Military History book, usually available-- from time to time-- at Borders, and less likely, Barnes & Noble. Schiffer does a great job with some of these things, though their editing is abominable.
Carell is or was (is he still alive, I wonder?) German, so the bias is that way, but his research is utterly phenomenal, especially if you revel in the details like I do, i.e., names, places, etc.
And you know something? The video conferencing thing is not a bad idea. We should look into it.
Best wishes, Fred.

I watched Clint take care of the punks last night. Good movie. I'd recommend it.
Preliminary look at video conferencing looks like it is a matter of already having or loading Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger. Windows Messenger comes on some computers (different than the old IM(instant messenger) that has been around. MSN Messenger is supposed to have more bells and whistles and easier to use and they have a MAC version also. Anyway both are free and both can be downloaded. Then it is matter of setting up your name and inviting your friends in. The only thing I don't know is if you can do it with more than 2 people at a time. Guess I'll have to find some high school kids to ask or download it and try it. With maps, it would be matter of positioning the camera to look at the maps and use a pencil for a pointer.

Fred, if you don't have it, Scorched Earth is a must have for Eastern Front study. Hitler Moves East is his first book and is about the invasion of Russia. Video-conferencing? Coincidentally I just received an invitation for a free 14 day trial of a Cisco video-conferencing platform. Let me look into it. BC, we need to send the saved money to Fred as he is now complaining about 70 degree weather being too cold. The Rat! Billy

If it's going to be more than we two, then Manhattan is best. P. J. Clark's has been good for us. Watering holes are not my specialty, so if there's another place you or the others might want to try, it's OK with me.
There are three Saturdays left this month, the 17th, 24th, and 31st and those are OK for me.

Video conference? It implies more than two people, but how does it work? Would you have multiple windows on your screen, or what? Mac version?

Billy-- I read Hitler Moves East, but it was one of those damned things my ex-wife pilfered from me in that divorce. I have Scorched Earth here. I also have his books, Invasion! They're Coming! and his photographic work, Stalingrad. He is a top-notch historian. As for the Florida weather, it is dreadful. The cold at night is brutal; temperatures don't get much above 60. And the days... well, the thermometer struggles to get over 80. Today is particularly bad... heavy weather clouds... oops!, sorry... that was a flock of snowy egrets. I may even have to put the wind-screen up on my car when I have the top down. That darned wind blows all the paper around!! Awful! Best wishes, Hemingway.

Well we've missed our chance for a March meeting of the round table.
I think it's time to start planning for the next one.
