Hello,
It's been quite some time since I have posted on any message boards. I am looking forward to Hagerstown next week and just wondered if anyone knew of any 7th Cavalry troopers who are buried in the area of Hagerstown or anywhere in the Shenandoah Valley, for that matter. When attending Louisville in 2004, I visited three Seventh Cavalry graves on the way there. Guess I could look through MEN WITH CUSTER but this is probably faster.
Thanks to all.

John--
There are only two I know of buried in Maryland:
PVT Frank, William (Company B)—Buried in St Paul’s Cemetery, Baltimore. PVT Bischoff, Charles H. (Company C)—Buried in Lot 92 N1/2, Section XXX, London Park Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.
Baltimore, however, is even farther away from Hagerstown than Washington, D.C. If you are so inclined, I can give you a number of fellows buried at the Soldiers' Home in DC, and in Arlington. And Washington is only 75 miles-- by Interstate-- from Hagerstown.
I will check southern PA, eastern WV, northern VA, for you, as well.
Best wishes, Fred.

Fred,
Thanks for your answer. I was afraid of that when I sent off that message. I thought about the large number that ended up at the Soldier's Home but thought, what the heck, maybe someone is way over in western Maryland where will be. Unfortunately, time limitations prohibit our heading over to the east. Kentucky was one of those rare states where a number are buried in small towns close to interstates!
Hope to see you next week.
John

John--
Here are some more, though I doubt these are any easier to get to:
PVT Stowers, Thomas James (aka, James Thomas) (Company B)—Buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Baxter, TN. PVT Caldwell, William M. (Company B; left at PRD)—Buried in Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield, PA. PVT McGuire, John B. Jr. (also seen spelled, Maguire) (Company C; with the packs)–Buried in Area C, Block 3, Grave 22, Livermore Cemetery, Saltsburg, PA. PVT Pigford, Edward D. (Company M)–Buried in Richland Cemetery, Dravosberg, PA. PVT Ryder, Hobart (Company M)—Roman Rutten told Walter Camp that Ryder committed suicide in Wheeling. Probably buried there.
Best wishes, Fred.
