Have the exact dates of the conference already been determined, and will they overlap the LBH anniversary? My first priority is to be at LBH at that time, but I have never been to Washita, and I have a friend who is a ranger there, so I would really like to go.

Maybe your ranger friend has some input on the suitability of and accomodations at Elk City. I passed on the thought towards Joanie. Like the LBH and unlike North Platte, it is one of those places I'd want to drive and hang around at more than a one day bus trip. If I was betting, I'd bet on OKC and probably not during lbh weekend. bc

Z girl, the 2011 conference will be at Okie City. They will bus tour to the Washita. Too many people want to fly in and then have a city for the noncoms to shop and stuff. There seems to be an Association preference for Holiday Inn Conference centers as well. The last conference that went to the Washita stayed at Amarillo, TX. No one was interested in going back there. I have told the powers that be that I would look for suitable lodging closer to the battlefield but I do not expect to find anything suitable or suitable enough to move it out of Okie City. Elk City has over 900 motel rooms in 20 motels including a 150 room Holiday Inn. It probably has more accomodations than North Platte. It is 112 miles from OKC and not far from the battlefield. Anyone flying would have to rent a car is all. They would be close enough they could scrap the buses and save a bunch of money. Otherwise someone else is working on the Okie City arrangements. bc BC, one advantage of OKCY would be its proximity to Fort Reno and the Darlington Agency, just west of OKCY and near El Reno. Based upon Mapquest, Elk City is 86 miles west of El Reno vs 28 from OKCY. Ft. Reno is west and north of El Reno a few miles so I haven't included that figure. Billy

Billy, What is the significance of Fort Reno and Darlington agency?
Seems like any trip south just involves a pass through in OKC with a quick stop at the federal building bombing memorial. Haven't been to the cowboy hall of fame and museum in years nor the 45th Inf Div. WWII museum, easily the best equiped WWII museum you will ever see.

You're making it sound better and better. Not sure there will be any money left after the LBH trip next summer though.

Steve's birthday?
I'll raise a toast to you this Sunday on my weekly ride-about (in my English saddle, of course <g>).
Can't tell you how much I enjoy our discussions and consideration of all the issues and evidence surrounding our interest here.
Good show! Keep it up! and happy returns...may you have another enjoyable and safe year in the saddle...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Larry and Steve.
Larry you are too seldom seen or heard from around here of late. Hope all is well with you.
Steve, One year closer to dropping your drawers, or what ever that is that you 'law dogs' in Arizona call the milestone.

Thanks Clair
I enjoy it also. It is hard to learn something different if everyone agrees. I find it odd that people complain when it is not required reading. Everyone can read the old posts or start new ones.
Thanks Larry and the same to you.
Thanks Michael I think. The strange part of dropping is that there is an end now and it is less than 5 years. The good part of our Drops program is that can bank 5 years of retirement payments.

BE:
Have a good day.
My sentiments exactly. No complaints here. I enjoyed parts of yours' and Clairs' exchange over tactics. Couldn't keep up with all of it due to other real world concerns. Now a good study of Indian tactics is in order; after all they won the day somehow.
Good Day: Boston:

Best birthday wishes to Steve and Larry. I have not heard from Larry (Bubbabod) in a good long while. I hope all is well. Meanwhile, I appreciate the debate between Steve and Clair over Benteen's pace during his mission. Great Stuff.

Happy Birthday to (notso) Crazy Horse!!! Keep up the good work.
Hope you have a better one than mine two days ago on Saturday. Worked all day and then went to the Red Lobster. 9:30 at night and they seat us in the squalling kid section. Damn kids screamed the whole time we were there. We ate quick and then I left the mgmt and hostess a tip or two on where to seat people. They were seated before us and they ordered the all you can eat shrimp. Judging by their looks, I knew they would be there another couple hours before they got their fill. It started out wrong at the Red Lobster as well. As we approached the door from the parking lot, a hostess opened the door and looked out. I thought great, she is going to hold the door for us. Wrong, 8 feet from the door she ducks back inside and lets the door slam shut. And then my baked potato had been heated for an extended period of time .....

Actually I've had a great birthday weekend! Got presents on Sunday Oct. 4, my wife took me out to eat, she made me my favorite birthday cake, and spanakopita (Greek Spinach Pie!) I took Oct. 5, Monday off from work and it was a beautiful fall day in NH.
Yeah . . . pretty good birthday all in all.
PS: And the Patriots won over the Ravens AND the Red Sox are in the AL playoffs.
Can't get much better than that for a birthday weekend!
Thanks for the call out, BC.
