Can I wear civvies this time? The weather is gonna be rather warm, if I'm not mistaken. Bring along your Civil War gear for the ride and the dinner. Period attire if you have it, by all means. keogh

Only one tiny problem...my Civil War gear is Confederate artillery... That shouldn't be a problem at all. We'll just consider you one of Mosby's men captured in a failed raid. keogh

I am writing this post at 12:47 am while sitting in the lobby of the Wyndam Hotel in Gettysburg for our annual conference. So far, I have had the pleasure of meeting up here with Melani, Terri Zapata, Steve Schwartz, Marc Abrams, Bill Serritella, Dale Kosman, Kevin Connelly, Father Vince Heier, Col. Joe Shea, Wayne Sarf, Sandy Barnard, Frank Mercatante, Don Horn, Colleen Shea, Joan Croy, Bill Blake, the noted Gettysburg sculptor Terry Jones, noted western artist Jerry Thomas, our own 'Jasw', Bruce Liddic, and so many others, including the well known Civil War reenactor and Living Historian Patrick Falci who portrayed Gen. A.P. Hill in the Gettysburg movie. I believe Leigh Cole is due to arrive sometime tomorrow.
I spent the day exploring the Devil's Den area today as well as the bloody angle, and Bigelow's Battery, where Sickles lost his leg by the Truscett (Sp?) Farmhouse. Discovered an interesting local bar in town called the Mine Shaft -- very hard to find, a local hangout, although I'd recommend the bar in the Farnworth House Restaurant as a better choice for those visiting the town. The latter was used as a regular hangout by the lead reenactors while filming the Gettysburg movie and contains many of the uniforms and weapons used in that movie. I had breakfast with Dale, Kevin and Terry Jones at the local Perkins and a late dinner with 'Jasw' at the Lincoln Diner (and no, Lincoln did not show up as there were just too many booths). I don't know where I'll be tomorrow but there is plenty to do in this town to keep oneself busy.
It has been determined that next year's convention will be held in Sheridan Wyoming and will entail another horseback ride across the LBH Battlefield. The year following that will be held in Winchester VA in the Shenandoah Valley and the following year at St. Petersburg to cover the events leading up to Appomatox, including 5 Forks, Saylors Creek, the Namozine Court House, etc.

Have a good time Bill. I had hoped to meet up with you and the others. We had plans for the conference as well as Canada and Niagara Falls. However we had decided to finish a few projects before going. We had hoped to hit the road by Tuesday. It is now Wed. night and two more things to do. Probably can't get out of here till Friday sometime. Now we just might head out to Colorado for a few days to beat the heat. These 107 degree days are taking their toll.

Today at the Conference turned out to be a full and interesting day of lectures and discussions. After a hearty breakfast at Perkins, we returned to attend the morning lectures, which included presentations by Judy Justice who portrayed Libby Custer, the noted sculptor Terry Jones speaking on some of the unique and interesting monuments at Gettysburg, and Patrick Falci, a Living Historian who portrays Major General A. P. Hill (and did so in the movie 'Gettysburg') who gave us a synopsis of the Civil War and Hill's interesting relations with Stonewall Jackson and James Longstreet from a first person perspective. He is an excellent public speaker whose acting skills were put to great use. I was surprised to learn that he is from Queens, NY, practically in my own backyard. He also gave us some interesting stories about the filming of the movie Gettysburg involving Martin Sheen, Tom Berenger, and Ted Turner. Then an excellent buffet lunch, followed by an afternoon session spent listening to a panel discussion with Don Horn, Bruce Liddic, John Hart and Mike Phipps talk about Custer at Gettysburg, followed by an interesting evening Auction where I acquired several hard to find books and pamphlets on the Battle, including Hardorff's book on Indian casualties at the Battle. Now its time to turn in after a long day.

the final day of the conference centered on talks given by Battlefield Rangers Wayne Motts on Pickett's Charge and Mike Phipps on Buford's Cavalry on the first day. These talks were followed by the Grand Banquet that evening, where Living Historians portraying General Custer, Libby, Myles Keogh and General A. P. Hill along with a good many other reenactors made an appearance and enjoyed period music from a fife and drum corps. The Garryowen got several standing ovations when it was played, as did the song Dixie, which General Hill begged to have performed at the end. The night continued in the Hotel Lounge area where the drinks and good talk continued late into the night.
The following Sunday morning, we met for breakfast at the hotel restaurant, then went out to the Battlefield for a four hour horseback ride from the Round Tops across to Seminary Ridge, riding past where Sickles lost his leg and many more historical places. On the ride with us and dressed in period gear were Bill Serritella, Terry Jones, Dale Kosman, Kevin Connelly, Melani Van Petten, Dale Harrison (as Gen. Custer), Patrick Falci (as Gen. A. P. Hill) and myself as Captain Myles Keogh. We are back at the hotel now getting dressed for dinner in town and then drinks later at the historic Farnsworth House Tavern.

Just returned to the hotel from a very enjoyable evening spent at the Farnsworth Tavern, behind the Farnsworth House Restaurant. Our party consisted of Bill and Mrs. Serritella, Dale Kosman, Kevin and Mrs. Connelly, Melani Van Petten, Terry Zapata, Sandy and Mrs. Goss, Terry Jones, 'jasw' and myself. Once inside the Farnsworth Tavern, filled with memorabilia from the Gettysburg movie, such as Chamberlain's coat, Lee's hat, Pickett's coat and hat among many others, we ran into none other than the actor Steven Lang sitting at the bar. Lang portrayed Gen. George Pickett in the Gettysburg movie and Gen. Stonewall Jackson in Gods and Generals. We had a drink with Steven at the bar, took a few pics with him, and discussed having him join us for next summer's horseride at the Little Big Horn, which he said he has always wanted to do. He is a great admirer of General Custer and the Little Big Horn battle. He is a very gracious and gregarious fellow, and meeting him at the Farnsworth bar was a most memorable occasion for us all. Hopefully, we will soon have a new member joining the LBHA to go along with Gen. A. P. Hill who joined the organization at this year's conference.
Back to New York tomorrow morning.

Here's a pic of General A. P. Hill (alias Patrick Falci, who reprised his role in the movie Gettysburg). General Hill gave a very interesting and entertaining overview of his experiences in the Great War. keogh Attachments:
