I've never really felt that the Katie Gibson stuff rings true--there is probably some basis in fact, but it was actually written by her daughter after her death, based on her journals, and there is some stuff that is clearly baloney. Not sure about the Christmas story.

It will probably be a while before I get my newsletter as I'm pretty far down the LBHA totem pole. Probably be another week. Besides we just got 15" of snow today. That will slow the pony express riders down to a dawdle. And we all know how fast the horse dawdle gait is! Dawdlegait. Sounds like something that warrants an investigation. Was there a deep throat lurking around back then? bc

If I can't find one of those then one of the nominees will have to hope a coin can land on its edge. Could flip a coin into the grass to even the odds. Last resort would be assign them as rock, paper, and scissors. I guess is someone from the LBHA was on the ball, they would post something about it on their website or their message board with pertinent info about the nominees. bc

Got my February newsletter today(2-9-11). That means everybody else should have theirs as well.
Dan, it is an election with three running and you vote for three. No coin flip necessary. Guess I'll save a stamp. Their bios are in the newsletter. All are qualified.
There was some artwork in this issue but nothing by Tokeca Wanji. Excellent artwork though.
Joan Croy wrote about some the happenings and hardships of the women folk in the garrison. Mentioned when Benteen's child died and he and Gibson were away investigating some trouble at a reservation. Had no coffins or carpenters but a soldier made a plain pine box. Mrs. Benteen asked Mrs. Gibson to line it with something. Mrs. Gibson lined it with her wedding dress as there was no spare cloth around and Lt. Mathey stayed up all night to help her line the casket to have it ready for the funeral in the morning. No funeral service with a preacher, just a trip to the cemetery.
Had the bio of a new member who claims to be a custerphile. Guess I don't know what a custerphile is.

I'll get in there sooner or later . Our guy keogh suggests that I subscribe but I don't have the kind of money to spend on that sort of thing just yet. If you're speaking of the right Gibson, I've drawn a picture of him also. Its rough but I like it.

bc,
Yes Britt I see that now. What is this a Central American presidential race with only one candidate. What the hell is the sense of sending of a ballot with pick three names and theres only three names on it.

What the hell is the sense of sending of a ballot with pick three names and theres only three names on it. Be Well Dan The downside is that who wants to volunteer a lot of their personal time to do something for free and then have to worry about losing an election. The upside is that my ballot number is a few hundred above 4000. Seems like there is less than a thousand members. The card gets mailed to Downer's Grove, Ill which is basically Chicago. The people up there know how to get someone elected. You do the math on what the final tally will be. bc

Got mine yesterday. Kinda surprised that the mailman got close enough to deliver with all the fire trucks in the road. Do you have any idea how much water runs out on the ground instead of the fire? Enough to make 100 foot long sheet of ice 3 inches thick.
I'll get my newsletter read tonight and my ballot mailed in!

Got my July newsletter a couple days ago on 8-6-11. I suppose the August one ought to be right behind it maybe. Anyone recall what month the single annual research review is supposed to be published?
The July newsletter also contained a flyer to buy prints of Michael Donohue's painting at $150 apiece. It is entitled "Custer's Last Stand Where the Hell is Benteen?" It is the final moments on LSH with Custer using his field glasses looking for Benteen while standing on the military crest of the hill.
I just noticed that of five soldiers wearing cartridge belts that were partially shown, four were full of cartridges and only one had two cartridges missing from it.
Of 18 soldiers depicted, five appear to be left handed/eyed.

Good evening everyone.
I just got my March 2013 LBHA newsletter today and see that the main article is by Fred entitled "3411 Revisited".
Since he first told me about it and I had a chance to go up there and view it for myself, I've always believed that is where De Rudio saw Custer wave. Fred wrote a very concise article reciting testimony that supports that location. It is still convincing to me.
I got busy and haven't had much time to check in, much less post much since last summer. Since I only had time to check in a few times a week, it was very hard to jump into the middle of an ongoing conversation so I haven't kept up like I used to. I am planning on going to the Sheridan conference to get all caught up again. We also have Sandy Barnard coming to speak to our Quivira Chapter Santa Fe Trail Association meeting in Great Bend, KS next month on Apr. 22. He will be speaking on Where Custer is buried. He was going to talk about his new book about the LBH photographer from Great Bend but it isn't ready yet. Probably the following year.
