Here in Australia, historians, both professional and ameteur like myself, are truly fortuante. Our National Library have an ongoing project of digitizing past issues of Australian publications and in particular newspapers. The search fields are very generous and include timeframes to be searched.
Using this, I cam across the following report in the delightfully named Town and Country Journal of 28 October 1876. It is a New York Herald interview with Private Thomas Harrison, who appears to have been one of the relief and burial party to arrive soon after the Battle of LBH. There are some interesting observations in the interview and I apologise in advance if it has been aired before.
