Does anyone know what kind of money Eliza was making when she worked as Custer's servant/cook/housekeeper?
Eliza Brown appears to have worked on the basis of bed and board, though she may also have had a small wage. I've found nothing to show that she received definite payment but a lot of generalisation about supplying food to the needy from the Custers' private stores.
She was with Custer, then Elizabeth and Custer from August 1863 until September 1869. She later became Eliza Brown Davison/Davidson.
