An excerpt from a George Bent letter to George Hyde, dated Dec. 5th, 1904, The Journal of the Custer Association of Great Britain, p. 21, with my annotations in brackets:
Two Moons says about Custer's Massacre ... it was never known who killed Custer. He says the Indians were shooting at the soldiers and the air was full of smoke and dust and [they] could not see very well. After the smoke and dust cleared away, they found Custer dead among his men. He says [that the] whites say [that] Rain in [the] Face, [ a] Sioux, claimed he killed Custer, but he says it is not so.
