Marcus Reno was not a coward.
He ended the ACW as a Brigade commander
He was well known to Sheridan
it is inconceivable that Phil Sheridan would tolerate a coward.
He received Brevets following the war and
while those were overdone, those making the
decision to award them would not have done
so to anyone they thought was a coward. It is certainly ok to question his decisions and
his leadership qualities, but to label him
a coward is despicable. Those who do so lose their credibility and show their lack of respect for a man long dead who cannot defend himself.
From all reports he was drunk on duty which then affected his judgement and I consider that a fact which then caused many of the problems that day from the start and your being way to melodramatic over someone you didnt know so in a way Reno reaped what he sowed .
Also feel free to Call General Custer a Glory Hunter Lunatic and I could care less BECAUSE NOBODY can EVER challenge his brave fearless record even to his death as I rather be a dead hero than a live coward !
PS : Its also why I never drank a sip of alcohol in my life as I could never live with myself if it clouded my judgment and cost people their lives and thats why its cowardly ! And if you doubt me ? if Benteen didnt take charge everyone would have been slaughtered because of that drunken coward .
Sadly I think he also suffer a guilty conscious so he thought demanding a hearing might easy his self inflicted pain but it was to no avail for obvious reasons .
