The Army & Navy Journal, on Aug. 19. 1876, published an article by Major Reno detailing the ammunition use among his command at the LBH. He reported 6 Springfield carbine malfunctions (out of 380) and ammo expenditure as follows:
Carbine: 38,030 Pistol: 2,954
