Private Peter Thompson wrote about preparations for the march:
“After Custer’s return, we were not long in doubt as to our future plan of action. We were put to work and kept busy overhauling stores, sacking grain, etc. Wagon trains also began to arrive from other posts to be loaded with grain, food, ammunition, tents, pack-saddles, and such other articles as are necessary for a campaign. The work was heavy, but we performed it cheerfully. The object of this work and hurry was a matter of conjecture with us. We knew we were going to move, but in what direction was a secret to all but those in command. By the end of April everything was in order, preparations fully completed and the soldiers waiting for marching orders.”

I wish to thank all of the many positive responses to "The Ride". Requirements: Individuals must be members in good standing with the Little Big Horn Associates. We will need to receive firm commitments by April 20.2009. A non refundable deposit may be required at that time. The group will meet at The LBHA Headquarters Hotel: Resturant area ( Holiday Inn Grand Montana) between 7:30 - 8PM on June 18,2009. We hope to leave for the Battlefield at about 7:15 AM on June 19. As of this moment the ride will commence at the Realbirds Ranch to proceed to the Crows Nest. We expect that the event will cease (for some of us by soreness, and exhaustion) about 5 PM/ At this time, subjest to change, Points of interest will include the Reno Fight area, Weir Point, Luce and Nye Cartwright and Luce Ridge. We hope to proceed to Keogh's skirmish line - Please REALIZE that some points are in delicate negotiation. I owe three individuals responses received at my email address. We will respond- just getting current with year end stuff. Uniforms or period clothing is optional and IS NOT a requirement - The ride was "drummed" up in Hagerstowne by a Leathered Group of LBHA members; the main culprits included: Terry Jones, Dale Kosman, Keough, Fred Wagner, Colleen Shea, John Hart, Joan Croy, Jean Lyons, Liz and Kevin Connelly, Ted Numb, and myself. We do not anticipate to be lollygaggin' in any morrass. The members do expect to experience a moment of tribute to all the brave individuals who fought in the engagement. And we are humbled to accept Terri Griffiths request to honor Don Griffiths during the ride - more on this request at a later time. So members: Be Quick: Bring Packs: We have limited space:

I took this ride!!! Wow, I just missed you guys. I went for the 3hr ride at 4pm. Oh it would have been nice to go with you guys!
Who was your guide? Our guide was Hamley RealBird. It was an amazing experience, and I am doing it again next year as well.
Did you all actually end up riding in your planned attire? I would love to see pictures if you have any.
Cheers, Tori
