My name is Jeff Davis. I am a retired army (USAR) historian and I have been working on publishing papers and books owned by members of the Calhoun family. This includes Frederic Calhoun, his wife Emma Reed Calhoun, and perhaps Margaret Custer Calhoun. I came across a series of newspaper articles from the Vancouver, Washington area, in the year 1885. Margaret Custer Calhoun and Libbie Custer visited Fred and Emma Reed Calhoun there. I hope someone on this message board knows of a good reference where someone has tracked either lady's movements in the 1880s.
I recently published Fred's personal Order's Book. It does not have too much on the Battle of Little Bighorn itself, since Fred was in the 14th Infantry. However, it does give a good consolidated look at what it was like to be a career officer in those days. I am currently working on transcribing his wife's household account book for publication, as a companion volume.
If anyone else have parallel research going, please contact me, perhaps we can exchange information.
