Anthony Romeo, longtime LBHA member and Yonkers, NY resident, died on May 15 after a brief illness. He was 85 years old. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, eight of his children. Anthony was born in Brooklyn in 1922 of immigrant parents and proudly served his country during WWII as a U.S. Marine. Anthony devoted his time to numerous community and civic organizations. He served as president of the Holy Name Society and president of the 11th Ward Republican Club, he was the founder and first Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 5 of Crestwood, and he served as coach, manager, commissioner and board member of Henry S. Richards Boys Club. Immediately after retirement, Anthony dedicated his time to serving the community by volunteering at Lawrence Hospital in the Emergency Room for twenty years. He was an avid historian and active member of the Little Bighorn Associates. He had a collection of memorabilia regarding General George A. Custer and was always happy to share his passion for history with others, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville between the hours of 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Friday and 3 to 7 PM Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Eugene's Church, Yonkers on Monday May 19 at 10AM. Haven't these past eighteen months been quite bad? I am getting tireder and more weary of reading obituaries ... but Anthony lived a full, long life. And of course, he's up there with all the LBH participants and now knows what exactly happened.
My sincerest condolences. --t.
