Remember, all have a right to state their opinions or views, whether a "ringer" or not. I would like to hear ALL theories to EVERY episode of this battle, and so would the majority on this board.
Certain people on this Board have preconceived notions that some have little, or nothing to add, in an intelligent way, to anything that has to do with the LBH Battle. They may be surprised with what this collection of interested members may have to add to the theoretical outcome of the battle.
Give everybody a chance to voice their opinions without the intimidation of others who think they are far above the rest of us.

I completely agree; everyone should have the forum to state his or her ideas and not have to worry about being taken to task by anyone, including those who don't speak quite as well as others. And brother, you certainly do seem to have a self-esteem problem. I wonder what one does about that? Best wishes, Fred.

Fred,
I think by your posts, people will see your demeaning ways towards others. I would also think that it may deter others from posting their ideas, whether right or wrong, because of your critical responses!
Best wishes, RollingThunder

I think by your posts, people will see your demeaning ways towards others. I would also think that it may deter others from posting their ideas, whether right or wrong, because of your critical responses! I know this must have slipped your mind-- such as it is-- but let me remind you of these little gems: Fred, Since you come on this board, all high & mighty, I'd like to know what your sources are. At your earliest convenience, could you provide all of us with your alleged resources and their origins? Regards, RollingThunder That was the first time you ever addressed me and whatever post I had put up was certainly not directed at you (God forbid!), but at our Swiss child. foolkiller, Are you trying to turn this forum into a battlefield with your insults towards Huckleberryjoe??? I would suggest that you re-read the agreement that you agreed to before you were given the privilege to join this Board. Let's keep it constructive. Regards, RollingThunder If you knew what you were talking about, you might understand what this was all about, but it is apparent you would prefer to jump to conclusions. Whether you know it or not, these two gentlemen are friends. But then, why would I expect you to know these things... ? tommyk, No wonder your Posts are so HIGH......Nothing, but.....icons & garbage posts (57% worth!)!!! This is my favorite! Do you think it might be a deterrent to the poster? It isn't demeaning, right? This is the end of it, silly little man: I have never, ever put up a single word that has ever demeaned another's serious post. I have never attacked unless I have been attacked or insulted in some manner. The first post I put up was intentionally tart because it was directed at someone who deserved it. And I notice you certainly came back for more! I will state this once and once only and if enough of you want me off this site, I shall pick up my marbles and go... but... in lieu of that, I shall seek information and give as much information as I can, to whoever would like it. I will help-- if I can; I will teach-- if I can; I will assist-- if I can; I will provide information-- if I can, to anyone who is decent and is interested and who asks. Like I said, if that's not what you all are here for, let me know. I just don't suffer fools very well. You picked on "tommyk"'s posts... ? Yours read like those of a hall monitor. Is that your job here? Maybe you can count the votes for and against me. That's right up your alley. Best wishes, Fred.

The fact that one message board deletes all references to another is both juvenile and asinine. I am a long-standing member of that "other board" and have made several references to this board, many of which have been complimentary, despite being called a couple of names by the Swiss Inquisitor and despite some rather distasteful remarks by another clown on this board. Yes, but lets not forget how you were treated by the moderator on that "other" board when you did mention that you had joined our site. You were treated rather shabbily I thought, and forced to defend your honor and loyalty in the process. No one has yet taken you to task in the same fashion here at this forum. And your references to this site did not include a link to it.....we all know what the result would have been had you done so. As for the Swiss fellow, it seems that most of the continuous insults have been hurled in his direction, either directly or thru innuendo, as opposed to vice versa. I think it is to his credit that he has not responded in similar fashion, although his tolerance level must be very high compared to others. Your posts on the whole are excellent and I would hope you can continue them without resorting to the need to attack or needle anyone in the process. Your last sentence reminds us all of the dangers that can befall (and has befallen) other message boards that we are aware of. It is not the intent at this forum to compete with or replace any other Custer related message board, and I would sincerely hope that other message boards, including our old one, are not intent upon our own demise either, although the jury is still out on that one. One need only look at the great number of silly and inane postings made to date by 2 or 3 individuals from that site who write of nothing whatsoever related to Custeriana. Let us hope that this is a mere reflection of their lack of intelligence and class as opposed to a serious attempt to side-track serious discussion. I think it is far more childish than anything I have yet seen here. As you know, no one here has been chastised for joining another forum. What happened to you at that site was an absolute disgrace. Your being a co-moderator there made it even worse. Or I should say, ex-co-moderator now. In my view, you were the best while you lasted. I agree with you that civility is of the utmost importance at this forum. I have not, nor would I send anyone to criticize you via PM. Sometimes people get insulted by posts made publicly at a message board, but it is often misinterpreted. It appears that someone here might feel they have been targeted by you in some of your posts. I do wish that all would remember that civility is of the utmost importance. Yes, we certainly do seem to have a few ringers here. Their posts have nothing whatsoever to do with custeriana. But you are right about the people mentioned above, as well as a few others who have contributed positively as well. I would hope that we can all ignore the nonsense posted by our little trolls and focus on the more serious issues of the day. We may be pro- Custer or pro- Benteen or pro- Reno or not give a damn in any event, but there is no reason we can't show learn from each others differing viewpoints and show respect in the process. Thanks for posting your comments here Fred. Your directness and honesty are appreciated. I do not know what new direction you believe will cause problems for this organization though. Don't let that get to his head.

I think it is to his credit that he has not responded in similar fashion, although his tolerance level must be very high compared to others. You know that's baloney and either you or someone else has told him to take down some of his posts. Thank you, but I take that as a knee-jerk reaction and what the hell. I would like to think I am a little bit bigger than that. I don't target anyone, at any time unless I am either attacked, mocked, or confronted by such a ridiculous situation that there is virtually no alternative. David is very adept at providing fodder for the latter. I get criticized for name-calling. I find your use of the word "troll" both derogatory and demeaning. There isn't a single person from that other board who is over here trying to disrupt it. There are some things I've noticed here, but nothing has been posted in other than simple jest. If you want to police up some of the problems, go after some of the people who show up here and not over there (or at least I haven't been able to finger them over there). Not a single person has come to this site-- that I know of-- with malicious intent. Not one! It's more than I can say... well, enough. Oh, c'mon! Do you want me to post it? Cornut's "letter" or article is an abject disgrace, and you guys know it. All it is is a stick in the eye to every decent individual on that site, and that includes Diane. It isn't fair and it's a pack of lies. And I'll tell you something, I have the PM's to prove it. An organization that continues to follow that kind of policy, a policy that isn't policed very well or isn't very well thought-out, is not an organization one can be proud to be a part of. I hope I never see anything like it again. You may not like that other board, but by heavens, that kind of trash is uncalled for, especially since it impugns virtually everyone over there. I enjoy the LBHA and I enjoy both Websites, and I don't like radicals of any ilk; they draw my ire and if need be, I take them on. I would like that to cease, but it isn't my call. If you want an example, ask me and I'll PM you. Best wishes, Fred.

In the interests of accuracy, let me say that I am indeed Mr. Harper, but I am not huckleberryjoe. I adopted a different name over here because I wasn't certain how long I would stay, or if there would be any serious discussions. I will be the first to admit to a sense of frivolity, since life is too short for nothing but being serious all the time. And I am not a young man, so I have to get the jokes in while I can. I do indeed know Joe, and we are virtual friends, never having met except on these boards. I don't see how a little bit of fun will detract from the learning experience.
If people ask me serious questions, I will give serious answers - or will tend to, anyway. As people from over there who are now also over here will know, I believe that everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and to his or her own theory of the fights. I never debate those, nor do I post and debate mine. I'm sorta like Vin in The Magnificent Seven, but instead of saying "We deal in lead, friend," I say "I deal in information, friend."
I also don't usually share my sources, for two basic reasons: one is I don''t see why I should do others' research, and the other is that if you find it yourself, you will know what it says and can make your own interpretation of it, rather than accepting mine. Besides which, it's always more exciting and rewarding if YOU discover something you've never seen or heard before.

My apologies, fool, for the mis-spilled bean. As a penance, I just whacked myself in the head with my Bic and cracked it in two (the Bic, not my head). Oh well, at least it still writes...and even a BrokenPen is mightier than a Sword... Cos

If Cuserwest took down any of his posts, he did so of his own volition. And if his posts were offensive in any manner, then he was right to take them down and should be commended for doing so. Lets not forget that he is trashed daily in a most unprofessional manner at another forum of which we are both familiar, with little or no restraint whatsoever. I think you will not find that level of vindictiveness and spite on these boards, and I am thankful for our members for doing their best to keep this forum both civil and respectful despite our personal views or opinions. Its a well known term used to describe someone who intentionally attempts to disrupt a message board by continuously engaging in off-topic subjects or rants. We have a few of them here, and we all know who they are. I would not be so sure of that Fred. Many of the inane postings go way beyond simple jesting. These individuals all come from our old board. You attribute their motives to be innocent, but I doubt it. They are clearly not here to post anything serious about custeriana. Their motive lies elsewhere. [/i] All have not yet received the recent newsletter that you refer to, so it would be inappropriate to engage in a commentary on it at this point. Lets give time for everyone to read what it is you are alluding to and then we can put forth our comments and views on it. There is no war going on here between this forum and our former site. Perhaps you should take your requests for an end to hostilities over there, as it seems they have little to gossip about over there other than our site. Best Wishes, The Moderator

On Jan. 30, Diane Merkel wrote: "Have fun, everyone. My feelings will not be hurt if you post there."
Moderator, I think both you and Diane are being childish in the extreme to refuse to allow the name or address of each other's boards to be posted. As far as mentioning this board on Diane's, the thread on it is currently running to 37 pages. You can find this board by searching on Little Bighorn Associates; you can find hers by searching on Little Bighorn History Alliance.
The only reason I joined the LBHA in the first place was because of the message board; in fact, I didn't know the organization existed until I found the board during a Google search on Thomas Weir. I will be perfectly happy to continue to post on both boards.
Oh, and just in case anybody starts to wonder about my URL, I would like to state that I post to both boards from several different computers: my own laptop, my husband's desktop, my office at work, the computer at the front desk of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park's Visitor Center, and possibly my sister-in-law's in New York in a couple of weeks when I go there to visit. Or maybe from a friend's house, or the computer in the Ranger Office, or the Volunteer Office. Or the Cataloging Librarian's office. My point is that I am not a bunch of different people posting as Melani. It is also possible that two members might post from the computer at the home of one of them without there being any chicanery going on. I could, for example, have posted from Elisabeth's computer while visiting her last year (as it happens, we had better things to talk about!). It is the supposition that everybody is playing games that started all this baloney in the first place. If we are going to have on-line relationships, at some point we just have to trust each other or go elsewhere.
And by the way, why do we now have to register to be able to even read the board? That will not only not attract any new members, it may actively turn off people who were considering joining. Most people do not want to buy a pig in a poke.
And Moderator, what is your name?
I had come to expect a much higher level of discourse and scholarly pursuit than is currently going on. David is perfectly entitled to hold whatever rock-hard, unchangeable opinions he likes; I find that my own opinions change regularly as I consider the information I find on these boards. I do not particularly like extremists in anything, especially when they refuse to consider any other possibility than their own beliefs, and abuse people who disagree with them. I would hope that the LBHA can return to the higher standards I have come to expect.

Not all of us live or die or focus by/upon the Last Day of the Boy General's Life. Armstrong gave us thirty six years of existence to discuss and I--for one--find uncovering his true--and consistently human character--more interesting than ANY battle theory. In Custeriana, fact turns out to be Stranger than Fiction. Clara Blinn Tin Tin Tin.

As I seem to be the target of some folks' assertations of "trollism," I should--in return--offer the many posts I have placed today upon this august board. Though I will not regularly contribute to the threads (I prefer to read and learn) that explore Battle Theories, I will bet that my studies and subsequent portrayal of George Armstrong Custer would stand upon the same hallowed ground as those fighting or embracing the notion of the Benteen/Reno "betrayal" at LBH.
And as for our neo-conservative, he is truly entitled to his interpretation and characterisations (or mis-characterisations, per se) when it comes to Little Bighorn, the freaking Washita, or even Sand Creek. But I will not tolerate the moments when supposedly historic discussions become fraught with unnecessary reflections upon modern day politics, when being supportive of a human portrayal of GAC suddenly becomes an insult to "the USA," the Board of Directors or for that matter anything else. Such assertations do not only hinder the free exchange of historical expression but also create a innate feeling of resentment ... on either or both sides of the Custer Legend.
